THE MAURIE PAWSEY / TAC SCHOLARSHIP

General
At the 1990 APPA International Meeting held in Ottawa, a proposal was
tabled to create a jointly named APPA/AAPPA Scholarship to commence in
1991. The APPA Board of Directors gave unanimous approval to this
proposal on 4 July 1990 in support of its determination to make APPA a truly
international organization. The naming of the scholarship recognizes the
significant contribution of Maurie R Pawsey, one of the founders of AAPPA.
In 2002, TAC Pacific offered to supplement the scholarship funding to reduce
the cost burden on institutions. Following the decision of APPA to become an
independent organization in 2003 - now TEFMA - APPA is no longer a
partner in the scholarship. The TEFMA Education Committee is to
administer this scholarship.
Aim
The aim of the Scholarship is to provide an opportunity each year
for a person who is a member of TEFMA and is employed by an institution,
that is a member of TEFMA, to attend the annual conference of APPA(US),
AUDE (UK) or HEFMA (Southern Africa) and thereafter to visit selected
institutions.
Eligibility
- Only one nomination per institution is permitted each
year for each scholarship.
- Scholarships will normally be granted to an individual only
once.
- Candidates must be an employee of an Institutional member of
TEFMA.
- If the candidate is not already a member of TEFMA, then the
host Institutional member is to arrange for the candidate to become
a member of TEFMA.

a Facilities environment.
- Candidates must be operating at a middle level of management,
in the facilities department.
- Scholarship applicants may be required to undertake an interview.

all members. The invitation shall clearly indicate the closing date
for receipt of applications and the address to which they are to

The scholarship has a value of up to AUD$10,000 incl. GST. Where the total
cost of the study tour is less than AUD$10,000 incl. GST, the scholarship will
be for the actual costs incurred.
In addition to attending the conference, the successful applicant will be
expected to undertake a programme of visits to selected institutions. Such a
program could occupy several weeks, which implies a grant of ‘study’ leave
or similar for at least the formal portions of the visits in addition to the time for
the conference.
The successful applicant may need additional support from their institution to
cover costs over and above the value of the scholarship.
Each application
must be accompanied by a written statement that the required time and
additional funding will be provided.
The successful applicant will be required to produce a comprehensive written
report of no less than 2,500 words, covering the study tour and observations
made for the benefit of TEFMA members for publication in the TEFMA
Newsletter. The successful applicant will also be required to give a short
address at an ensuing annual conference.
Administration
The successful applicant's institution is required to cover all
costs of travel and, together with any other costs associated with
the trip/visit to the selected country. TEFMA will arrange for a
complimentary registration to the select conference. The institution
is then required to make a claim to the TEFMA Treasurer for reimbursement
of the TEFMA (Scholarship) contribution. Appropriate travel and
registration documentation, invoices, proof of payment will need
to accompany/support the claim.
