Annually, TEFMA ordinarily conducts two workshops\courses in Australasia, one in Australia and a second in New Zealand. These workshops complement the Annual Conference programmes and are used to explore emerging or topical issues facing Facilities Managers. The workshops are run over a period of two days.

TEFMA members often attend or provide formal presentations at other associations such as SCUP or FMA, thereby developing broader professional links within the Facilities Management/ Property industry sectors. TEFMA members currently receive member rates for FMA workshops.

SURVIVING THE IMPACT
How would your organisation respond?
Christchurch New Zealand
7 to 9 April 2010

This workshop will build on the Emergency Management Workshop held in Brisbane in 2007 and subsequently the issues that universities have had to address during the recent H1N1 pandemic.

A critical incident management team in any large organisation needs to comprise people from many roles or functions and this workshop is designed to bring those people together to consider surviving the impact of a major critical incident and to specifically address the team response to a critical incident.

The workshop is intended for, and will be of interest to, all members of the critical incident management team.   To gain the most from the workshop, people from (but not limited to) Facilities Management, Information Technology, Communications and Media, Student Administration, Health & Safety and Risk and Insurance should consider attending.

The workshop is bringing together excellent international speakers who have skills and experience from their campuses following major critical incidents.   This experience has been woven into a scenario on day 2.   The scenario will provide attendees with a realistic experience of a major critical incident which could well occur on their own campus and which will give everyone the opportunity to consider their own institutions ability to respond to a similar incident.   Topics will include first response, liaison with emergency services, communications and media management, welfare, business continuity, recovery and insurance.

The program for day 1 features presentations from speakers with the skills and background necessary to provide information which will assist attendees both during the simulation on day 2 and on into the future.

Procuring the Future - Establishing sustainable procurement within the tertiary sector
University of Sydney,
The Darlington Centre, New South Wales.
5 and 6 July 2010.

As more and more Universities establish strategies to create sustainable campuses, there is an increasing emphasis purchasing "green" products and services.

In this workshop you will have the opportunity to hear about emerging trends in a wide range of green service areas, including cleaning and waste management. There will be case studies from within and outside the sector that provide examples of how others have met the challenges of sustainable procurement. And we have some interactive sessions that will help you to develop your own policy and project with the expert help of your colleagues from across the sector. And we are looking to you to help us develop procurement strategies and benchmarks for inclusion in the annual TEFMA Benchmark. Finally we will also be discussing ways of maximising purchasing power across the sector, through establishing national or state contracts.
