Matt Smith joined the University of Tasmania (UTAS) in January 1999 as the Facilities Manager and was promoted to his current position as Director, Asset Management Services in January 2001. As Director, he is responsible for all capital works, facilities management and asset management issues at UTAS. Matt led the master planning review of all UTAS Campuses and works closely with the UTAS Built Environment Committee to implement master planning initiatives.
Matt will be moving on from the President Elect role to take up the President role of the Tertiary Education Facilities Management Association Inc from September 2009. Matt has been associated with the TEFMA since 2000 and held various roles on the Board since 2005.
Prior to joining the University, Matt spent 12 years as a Senior Facilities Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force, serving in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Queensland. Matt has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Surveying), Graduate Diploma in Management Studies and an MBA in Technology Management. Matt is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
