Overview

Ecological Sustainable Development … Environmental, Social and Economic Aspects

Over the past 10 years, growing environmental concerns, coupled with public pressure and stricter regulations, have caused Universities and other institutions to focus on Ecological Sustainable Development.

The Brundtland Report defines ESD as:

'Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.'

In June 2002, an AAPPA (now TEFMA) Workshop titled, 'The Environmentally Responsible University' was held. The workshop highlighted the need to develop strategies for a sustainable future. The broad interest in this area has lead to this topic being repeated in 2003.
