Since the early 1980's TEFMA has encouraged its members to submit
and share comparative cost data for a swag of facilities management
services. The annual benchmark survey has become one of the FM industry's
most recognised and respected examples of collaborative benchmarking.
The survey now boasts cost and performance data under the following
headings:
- Statistical data
- Maintenance
- Refurbishment
- Backlog Liabilities
|
- Cleaning & Waste Management
- Security
- Grounds
- Recycling
|
- Water
- Energy
- Parking
- Operating Costs
- Carbon Emissions
|
In addition to the operating cost data outlined above, TEFMA collects
information on Strategic Asset Management (SAM), Space Management
and Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESD). In 2006, there was a participation rate of around 90% of Australasian institutions taking part in the survey. Each year, the Association
compiles reports for its members. Institutional members receive a comprehensive report containing
the data of all survey participants, whilst Business Partners receive
a summarised report for the sector at large. In 2008 TEFMA in doing its part for the environment moved from the provision of these reports in hard copy report to "paperless" electronic format..
The 2007 benchmark survey saw the inclusion of the inaugural carbon emissions benchmark. TEFMA continues to work with it Strategic Partners in the development of international metrics.
The TEFMA CD-ROM data analysis tool introduced in 2002 is designed
to compare institutional cost data under each service heading against
any self-selected peer group and over any given period from 1993.
This has allowed institutions to compare themselves with those institutions
that are most like themselves. The CD contains survey data dating
back to 1993 and the data analysis tool automatically generates
graphs and data tables in Word and Excel formats for direct use
in reports
