QUT Creative Industries Precinct
The Creative Industries Precinct is a new initiative by QUT for
the Faculty of Creative Industries assisted by funding from the
State Government through the Department of State Development and
Arts Queensland.
The new facilities for the Creative Industries Faculty are Phase
1 of a two Phase development that will ultimately provide a major
new, and exciting complex that will enhance the newly created Faculty
of Creative Industries. The Faculty was launched in July last year
and is an amalgamation of the Faculty of the Arts and Academy of
the Arts combining the disciplines of acting, dance, communication
design, theatre studies, music and visual arts, film and television
with media and journalism.
The proposed Phase 1 of the project will also include the Creative
Industries Enterprise Centre, which will incorporate a business
incubator to facilitate the development of businesses within the
Creative Industries sector in Queensland.
In addition to the above components, QUT is incorporating a new
theatre for La Boite. This element will have a shared use by QUT
in the development of our acting and theatre studies' programs.
The Creative Industries site is an example of the emerging trend
within education to develop strong partnerships with relevant industries
to foster higher standards within the university curriculum, as
well as develop mutually beneficial programs between industry and
academia.
Phase 1 of the Creative Industries Precinct will be completed by
the end of 2003 at a project cost of $55 million.

Alterations and Refurbishment at Lincoln University
The aim is to provide efficient, effective and economic accommodation
for both staff and students. Using the existing assets in buildings
and other space and by developing a program for their development
and maintenance, these spaces should be able to support and benefit
the education of many generations of students to come.
Over the last 2 years, Lincoln University has managed a diverse
range of Alteration Refurbishment and Upgrading projects including:
· An upgrade of a Scientific Research Laboratory to Physical
Containment level 2 (PC2)
· Extension of a car park and installation of a bus shelter
· Refurbishment of a 78 bed accommodation building
· The upgrade of the fire protection systems throughout various
halls of residence
· Converting unused space into teaching rooms
These are mainly refurbishment projects up to a value of $2 million,
which need to be completed on time and within budget, and include
working with Consultants to upgrade services to meet current standards
and specifications, including fire protection, electrical and heating.

This space, originally a residence with 8 rooms and a central corridor,
needed to be gutted and set up as two English language teaching
rooms. The furniture is in response to the client wanting table
space and maximum student numbers in the room. Venetian blinds to
the windows allow the room to be used for projection.
25 year old teaching laboratories that will soon be upgraded to
PC2 labs for research.
Bench tops are 1200 wide interrupted by a services upstand.

A refurbished PC2 chemistry lab which sets the standard
for the lab refurbishment program underway. Features of the new
