Dear colleagues,

Three weeks after transitioning into the role of President during what was a very entertaining and successful TEFMA Awards Night in Adelaide, I am truly honoured to lead an association that has a proud history of uniting and supporting the broad church of Property and Facilities Management.

During my acceptance speech I promised to commit myself to work hard alongside the incoming Board, however I also made the point of asking you as Members and Business Partners to consider what you can do to cultivate and grow our Association to better support the organisations and the sector we represent.

The TEMC in Adelaide was a great success and I would like to acknowledge the members of the LOC; Satya Webster, Dominic Marafioti, Ann Braybon, Juan Smith, Kay Govin, Kendra Backstrom and Michelle Jordon-Tong for a magnificent effort which established a new record for registrations. I know the members of the 2020 LOC are already working hard to ensure we have another successful TEMC in Brisbane.

On the end of the TEMC in Adelaide it was a great pleasure to meet with the new Board for the first time. It’s fair to say that at the end of our first meeting the new Board have developed a shared vision for a stronger, smarter TEFMA which will ensure we stay relevant to our Members, Business Partners, Strategic Partners, senior executive and external stakeholders.

Your new Board is made up of the following membership: Wayne Millar - CSU (President), Glenn Mowbray - UC (President Elect), Mhairi Donohoe - Swinburne Uni (Vice President), Hilary Kavanagh – JCU (Secretary/Treasurer), Chris Hewison - RMIT, Iona Beauly - USC, Emmett Mackle - UoA, Jon Peacock - UoM, Kathleen Packer - UoW, Dominic Marafioti - UniSA, Matt Smith - UTAS, Trevor Humphreys - UWA and Bree Blackwell (Secretariat).

During the meeting we discussed how to achieve what is a large list of important objectives. We also talked through how to resource an expanded Board committee structure that now includes a Knowledge Services Committee. This committee has been given the responsibility to reinvent the Strategic Asset Management Guidelines and the Space Management Guidelines.

The Information Services Committee will continue the good work it has already started to ensure our annual benchmarking processes stay relevant and able to demonstrate best practice to our internal and external stakeholders. Our aim is to take the knowledge generated from the annual survey and convert that into wisdom that is articulated through a narrative using a language that is easily understood by our senior executive and external stakeholders and reinforce the value TEFMA brings to our sector by maturing our services to reflect TEFMA's evolving position as a premier sector association.

The Education Services Committee is finalising preparations for the Learning Environments and Grounds Workshops that will be held in November. They will then turn their attention to the creation of the 2020 Workshop and Webinar calendars.

The Membership Committee is looking to improve member and business partner engagement and there is a lot of enthusiasm to improve communication within our large associate membership.

In closing, I am also pleased to announce that in the near future we will be offering members the following great professional development opportunities:

An EOI to participate in a new concept that will see the creation of several Strategic Communities of Interest that will help reinvent the Strategic Asset Management Guidelines, Space Management Guidelines, refine the Annual Benchmarking Survey and more.
An EOI for senior members to help 'deliver' the 2020 AUDE Summer School for Aspiring Directors of Estates in the UK.
A scholarship for a member to 'participate' in the 2020 AUDE Summer School for Aspiring Directors of Estates in the UK.
