The Facilities Management Directorate is responsible for the planning and management of the CQUniversity Estate in line with the strategic vision. The Facilities Management Directorate is an innovative and dynamic place to develop and extend your career.

About the role
In this role, you will be the key DFM team member responsible for managing, planning, coordinating and implementing the sustainably effort across CQUniversity. You will be presenting to a range of diverse stakeholders to effectively drive change, and establish key relationship engagement plans which support the achievement of key performance indicators. The successful applicant will have a high level of analytical skill, with the ability to pre-empt, diagnose and resolve problems with plant and infrastructure.

You are responsible for:

  • Providing high level technical advice and support to the Director.
  • Contributing to the planning, development, investigation and delivery of a range of projects.
  • Assisting in the development of capital works plans, maintenance programs, and contracts.
  • Actively working with a range of stakeholders (internal and external) to identify, plan and deliver on sustainability items, in line with the Strategic Plan, Policy and Framework.
  • Adopting an active continual improvement approach to achieve sustainability goals and targets (including SDGs) established with CQUniversity. Report on these as needed
  • Effectively manage and ‘provide reporting and advice based on existing monitoring systems such as those for energy and water usage.
  • Developing professional documentation and reports as required. This includes items such as scope of work, tender documentations, technical reports, investigation reports, business cases and annual reports.
  • Actively seeking and applying for suitable grants or other opportunities to achieve sustainability goals.
  • Developing submissions for suitable Sustainability Awards.
  • Develop and submit to the Director a monthly report on Sustainability.
  • Presenting to a range of diverse stakeholders to effectively drive change, and establishing key relationship engagement plans which support the achievement of key performance indicators (both being key to your success in this role).

Position Requirements

  • Proven understanding of contemporary project management practices, processes and concepts; and an ability to undertake maintenance and construction projects (essential).
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and associated legislation including Workplace Health and Safety legislation (essential).  
  • Tertiary qualification in the sustainability/environmental area with at least 4 years subsequent relevant experience (essential).

Reporting to the Associate Vice President Campus Estate, you will be expected to initiate, direct and manage work with a high degree of autonomy.
The Deputy Director, Operational Services is responsible for strategically planning, managing and delivering maintenance and operational services to the University’s expanding facilities asset base, including remote properties and student accommodation assets. Working closely with University stakeholders, contractors and other Campus Estate sections, this role aims to ensure that the University’s built environment, facilities, and related supporting services enable core teaching and research activities whilst satisfying all statutory and regulatory compliance requirements.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have extensive experience in facilities management, well developed leadership skills, a strategic approach to problem solving, outstanding stakeholder engagement skills, and enjoy managing and developing a team of about 20 staff.
