The University of Queensland's Gatton Campus (UQ Gatton) combines the rural traditions of its agricultural college heritage with innovation and a collaborative outlook to deliver excellence in research and teaching in agricultural, animal, veterinary and environmental sciences.

Just over 30 minutes’ drive east of Toowoomba, and an hour’s drive west of Brisbane, the 1068-hectare Gatton campus offers a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and world-class facilities including; specialist animal and agriculture units including a dairy, piggery, poultry unit, sheep and goat herd, horticultural fields, plant nursery, post-harvest facilities, research laboratories and greenhouses, an extensive range of plant and farm infrastructure, and UQs Veterinary Medical Centre. The campus also operates several crop and animal production units which are used extensively to support teaching, research and hands-on training.

The Queensland Animal Science Precinct, contemporary teaching and skills training spaces, and the UQ Gatton Halls of Residence are also housed on the Gatton campus. Spread across two locations, its activities are predominantly focused at the Gatton campus, with a second farm located 10 kilometres away at Darbalara.

About This Opportunity

The Campus Director is a crucial leadership role within The University of Queensland and contributes significantly to the strategic and operational management of UQ Gatton. The role actively promotes service design and delivery within the broader University and the Faculty of Science professional services operating environment.

Responsibilities are broadly categorised across 4 core areas:

  • Animal Production Services

  • Field Production Services

  • Internal Leadership Activities

  • External Engagement and Local Community Activities

An example of duties includes, but is not limited to:

  • Overseeing the management of staff, budget, plans and processes to deliver operational services to Gatton campus.

  • Acting as the strategic liaison between the campus and Schools, Institutes, faculties and UQ professional service functions within the Chancellery portfolios and other relevant internal and external service providers in support of the operation of the campus.

  • Support the Gatton Executive to communicate and implement the University and Faculty strategy to staff, students and key stakeholders related to Gatton campus. In particular, raising and maintaining the profile of the Gatton campus within UQ and its to external stakeholders

  • Leading the engagement with the local Lockyer Valley communities and stakeholders who are users of the Gatton campus facilities, as steward for the University of Queensland.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an individual who is passionate about rural and regional educational opportunity, with demonstrated exceptional leadership and management skills, highly developed interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills, along with extensive project management experience and the ability to supervise projects through coordination of physical, financial and staff resources.

An ability to bring a community of staff together who are not all within their reporting structure and can act as an advocate for the campus within the University, is highly regarded.

The successful applicant will have a university degree at postgraduate level with substantial relevant experience in a university/similar environment – or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

A knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, the requirements of farm production systems and/or facilities management in an agricultural and veterinary context would be highly advantageous.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 5 years on a Senior Professional contract (HEW Level 10B).

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $153,807 - $207,732 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $179,954 - $243,046 per annum.

A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

On-campus housing may be offered as part of this package, subject to availability and negotiation.
