Workshops

TEFMA hosts an annual program of workshops, with content tailored to the specific needs of members working in higher education property and facilities management.

Smarter Data Management Workshop

Come and join us at the Smarter Data Workshop at Flinders University, Adelaide taking place, Tuesday 18 June - Wednesday 19 June 2024.

The theme of the workshop is ‘Building Intelligence: Harnessing Data and A.I. for Smarter Buildings and Spaces'

The two-day workshop program will include some great guest speakers, a study tour of local Universities and an opportunity for networking and dinner.

Abstracts

Come and present at the Smarter Data Workshop in Bedford Park campus, Flinders University, Adelaide on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 June 2024.

We are living through a convergence of various technologies and approaches aimed at making buildings more intelligent, efficient, and responsive to the needs of students, staff, our community, and the environment.

The trend in smarter data facilities management is towards greater integration of technologies and data-driven decision-making to create more efficient, sustainable, and user-centric built environments.

Presentation topics may include the following suggestions:

  • The Evolution of Buildings: A historical overview and future projections of smart building technologies and their impact on architecture and urban development.

  • Data-Driven Design | Integrating Technology and Architecture: Exploring how data analytics and A.I. are reshaping the design process and influencing building aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability.

  • Space Utilization Optimization: A.I. can analyse data on space usage, including occupancy patterns and traffic flow, to optimize space utilization. It can identify underutilized areas and suggest reconfigurations to maximize efficiency and accommodate changing needs.

  • Internet of Things (IoT) Sensors and Intelligence: Look at the role of IoT sensors in collecting real-time data on occupancy, energy usage, air quality, and more to optimise building performance.

  • A.I. in Facilities Management: Examining how artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms are being applied to analyse building data, predict maintenance needs, optimise energy usage, and enhance occupant comfort.

  • Energy Efficiency Strategies for Spaces: Best practices and case studies on leveraging data analytics, and A.I. to maximise energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprints in buildings.

  • Enhancing Occupant Experience through Smart Technologies: How data-driven building management systems can personalise the indoor environment, improve air quality, lighting, and acoustics, and promote occupant wellness and productivity.

  • Security and Safety Solutions for: Discussing the role of monitoring devices, video analytics, and A.I. in enhancing building security, detecting threats, and ensuring occupant safety.

  • Smarter Predictive Maintenance: Exploring how predictive maintenance strategies based on data and A.I. analytics can optimise building performance, reduce downtime, and extend the lifespan of building systems.

  • Data Privacy and Security: Addressing the challenges and considerations surrounding the collection, storage, and sharing of data, and strategies for protecting privacy and preventing cybersecurity threats.

  • Future Trends in Smart Technologies: An exploration of emerging technologies such as augmented reality, digital twins, and blockchain, and their potential impact on the evolution of smart buildings.

Presentation topics may consider technologies that help FM professionals.  For example:

  • IoT (Internet of Things): IoT sensors and devices provide real-time data on facility conditions, allowing for predictive maintenance, energy optimisation, and space utilisation tracking.

  • Data Analytics: Advanced analytics tools process data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement within facilities.

  • Mobile Apps: Mobile apps for FM personnel streamline work order management, inventory tracking, and communication with clients and users.

  • Facility Security Technologies: Surveillance cameras, access control systems, and biometric authentication enhance facility security and monitoring.

Communication Platforms: Collaboration tools, such as communication apps and platforms, enable efficient coordination and communication within FM teams.
