The TEFMA UNE PARTNERSHIPS Diploma of Facilities Management Scholarship offered through TEFMA recognises and supports emerging leaders in the higher education property and facilities management sector. The scholarship is awarded to a TEFMA institutional member who has demonstrated a positive and meaningful contribution to the management of property and/or facilities within a member institution.  The Diploma was initiated by the Facility Management Association (FMA) and TEFMA acknowledges the effort by the FMA in establishing the Diploma.

Applications may highlight a professional at the early stages of their career in higher education, or an individual who has developed relevant experience in another sector and has more recently transitioned into higher education property and facilities management. The scholarship aims to encourage professional development, leadership growth, and long-term contribution to the sector through completion of the TEFMA / UNE PARTNERSHIPS Diploma of Facilities Management.

 

 
Application dates

Applications for the TEFMA UNE PARTNERSHIPS Diploma of Facilities Management Scholarship open late March each year.

To be considered for the scholarships applications and supporting material should be received by TEFMA no later than 5pm AEST on the closing date as noted on the TEFMA website.  If an extension is required, this request is to be received in writing by the Secretariat (info@tefma.com) by this date.  Extensions will only be granted in exceptional circumstances. 

Submissions must be made on the official application form. 

Scholarship criteria should be addressed in applications.   

 
Eligibility

The TEFMA UNE PARTNERSHIPS Diploma of Facilities Management Scholarship is open for applications from any individual, or on behalf of any individual working in a relevant department of a TEFMA member institution.  This scholarship is not open to Business Partners.
Individuals with outstanding achievements in relevant areas during the past year are encouraged to apply; alternatively, they may be nominated for the scholarship by a colleague or manager.  There is no limit on the number of applications from one institution.   
Successful applicants will be required to complete the course of study within 2 years of the scholarship announcement and provide an article for publication on the TEFMA website and social media platforms on a relevant topic at course completion. 

 
Assessment of applications and presentation of scholarships

Selection of the successful applicant will be approved by the TEFMA Board following receipt of a recommendation from a review panel established to review the applications.

A review panel, including representatives from TEFMA , will be nominated to judge applications.  The TEFMA representatives will include the following members:

.        A member of the Membership Services Committee

·       A member of the Education Services Committee

·       TEFMA Vice President

·       General Manager, TEFMA

Should an applicant be from a committee assessor’s institution, the General Manager, TEFMA will chair the review panel to avoid any potential conflict of interests

Applications will be judged against the published criteria.  Panel deliberations will be confidential, and the review panel’s decisions are final. There is an opportunity afforded to those who wish to seek feedback upon request.

The review panel may decide not to scholarship if it deems that no suitable applications have been received.

Evaluation of applications for the scholarship will be completed in JUNE Partnerships / July.  The review panel may shortlist applicants.  All applicants, including the winner, will be announced at the annual TEFMA Gala Dinner which forms part of the annual TEFMA Conference.  Details of the annual TEFMA Conference can be found via the Conference website. Should there be any reason the Scholarships Dinner is unable to take place in person, an online event will be hosted.

The scholarship winner may be asked to make a brief presentation on receiving the scholarship at the TEFMA Scholarships Dinner.   

 
UNE PARTNERSHIPS Diploma of Facilities Management Scholarship criteria 

Applications should clearly reference the criteria provided.  Words provided are a prompt only, to assist those completing an application, but are not intended to be exhaustive.  

A.     Background

Briefly outline the applicant’s role and responsibilities and how they are carried out in a way that makes a positive contribution to property and/or facilities management within a TEFMA member institution.

Applications should demonstrate:

·       Growing professionalism and capability in facilities and/or property management

·       Quality of work and approach to responsibilities

·       Contribution of value to the organisation

·       Benefits delivered to staff, students, visitors, and/or the broader campus community

Applicants may be at an early stage of their career or may have transitioned from another sector; seniority is not required. Evidence of impact may include initiative, reliability, problem-solving, or continuous improvement.

B.      Interpersonal skills

Demonstrate emerging interpersonal and professional capabilities through reference to some or all of the following:

Leadership

·       Evidence of promising future leadership potential

·       Attributes such as integrity, initiative, accountability, and a focus on quality outcomes

Customer Relationships

·       Developing capability in customer or stakeholder relationship management

·       Awareness of customer needs, responsiveness, follow-up, and service orientation

Organisational Relationships

·       Effective contribution within teams

·       Commitment, inclusiveness, collaboration, and clear communication

C.    Professional practice

Explain how undertaking the TEFMA UNE PARTNERSHIPS Diploma of Facilities Management will support the applicant’s professional development and future contribution to the sector.

Responses should address:

·       Relevance of the qualification to the applicant’s current role and career aspirations

·       How learning outcomes will enhance professional capability

·       How new knowledge and skills will be applied within the institution

·       Anticipated benefits to the organisation and the higher education facilities management sector

 
Application form

Instructions

1.      To be considered for this scholarship you must provide the following:

·       Completed application form.

·       Supporting materials (if any).

·       Details of any additional material to be made available should the judging panel choose to make a site visit.

 

2.      All sections of the application form must be complete for an application to be considered. 

 

3.      Applications must be endorsed and signed by the relevant Institutional Member. 

 

4.      Applications must be submitted online via email - info@tefma.com or via the submission portal here

 

5.      Save your file name as YOURSURNAME_SCHOLARSHIPNAME_datesubmitted i.e. SMITH_EPA_15.05.24.  Word or PDF is acceptable.

 

6.      If you have supporting documents (up to 2 supporting documents can be uploaded), please ensure they are saved as YOURNAME_SCHOLARSHIP NAME_Attachment A or Attachment B i.e.  SMITH_EPA_ATTACHMENT A

 

7.      Once you have submitted your scholarship, you will receive an automatic email within 24 hours.  If you do not receive an email, please email the TEFMA Secretariat: info@tefma.com to confirm your application has been uploaded correctly.
